Baile Corcaigh
(pron: bal-ya cor-kee) means "Town of Cork".
Corktown is Detroit's oldest neighborhood, taking it's
name from the Irish emigrants, many from the county of
Cork, who settled to this area in the 1840's.

If you’re still looking for a place to host your
office party or family gathering, Mooney’s Pub has
several dates still available and there’s no room
charge. Or if your party is no larger than 12, we can plan
something for the upstairs dining room. Give me a call
and we can set something up for you.
New Year’s Eve:
Wednesday, December 31, we will once again be celebrating
the Irish New Year as it arrives in Ireland. At 7:00 p.m.,
we dim the lights, provide a glass of complimentary champagne
to everybody, and Terence McKinney, in full regalia, properly
pipes the new year in and the old year out. Quite impressive
and a very popular event here at Baile Corcaigh. The best
part is that we all get to go home early enough to watch
the Waterford crystal ball drop at midnight and not have
to worry about dodging stray or spent bullets falling from
the Metro-Detroit sky. Make your reservations early for
this one.
Baile Corcaigh Book Club:
We will be meeting to discuss (finally) Death of a Joyce
Scholar on Sunday, October 5, at 1:30 p.m. And remember
that for November, we will each be choosing our own book
of fiction or nonfiction on the subject of the Irish Travellers.
It ought to be an interesting discussion.
